Ethan Turns Six
Ethan had his sixth birthday yesterday. We opened two presents in the morning – a stuffed Webkinz snake, and a pack of Pokemon cards. Then, I dropped him off at school in the morning with some “peanut-free” cupcakes for his class (although the ingredient label indicated they had every other substance in the universe in them). His fifth grade buddy N. stopped by and gave him a Webkinz tiger, which was very sweet.
In the afternoon, I stopped by his after-K program with another set of cupcakes, which Ethan enjoyed passing out to the other kids and the teachers. I took him home, and he went over to play at neighbor N.’s house, until dad got home and we could get to the serious business of opening the rest of the presents, of which there were many. By dinnertime he was on a three-cupcake, cookie, candy and multi-present buzz. Wrapping paper, nerf bullets, miniature knights, Where’s Waldo books, a light saber, shark backpack, and power ranger costume were strewn randomly throughout the room. He soon plopped down in the middle clutching an unopened package in one hand and a candy in the other and started sobbing because he couldn’t play with everything at once. Life is hard sometimes!
