Brass and Silver

Sunday was Easter. We had a big egg hunt over at the Ripley School with 10 other kids, mostly kids from the Sunday play group I started there. Here's a photo of the kids:

The weekend before last Ethan and I went to a brass concert at a local arts studio. It was designed for kids, and performed by six 20-something music students. We met two of his buddies there, and we also walked around the open art studios in the building. One artist was a jewelry maker, and she had Ethan and Lance enthralled. She let them squash some silver metal, and they watching her hammer, melt, and bend the metal. I think the artist got a kick out of it too since she had two little boys so totally fascinated by what she was doing.

On most Tuesdays, Ethan’s school gets out at noon. Most weeks Ethan goes to the town’s “Terrific Tuesday” program for the afternoon, and they run around like crazy guys, or go on field trips. But today, a non-working mom is having her son’s birthday party at 2pm. To get Ethan to his classmate’s party involved a complicated plan of calling a parent, getting a ride there and back, learning the parent had a conflict the night before, calling four other parents to see who could give him a ride home, finding one, calling several back to tell them he had a ride, sending a note to Ethan’s school saying he was taking the bus home with kid #1, forgetting to send said note because Ethan was interrupting me at 6:15 this morning, and finally calling and apologizing profusely to the school for failing to send the note.

In the world of playdates, I’m now -2, and I still end up picking up Ethan earlier than usual. This is why I am so very grateful for all the afterschool programs! They are a great fit for Ethan, who could just play and play and play all day long, as long as he has someone to play with.

Next week Mark, Ethan, and I are headed off to Florida for spring break. Just us. Wish us luck!
