Savannah

Last weekend we went down to Savannah to visit big brother Alec who just graduated from college. The flight down was an adventure. We were supposed to land in Atlanta and change planes, but as we were circling the airport to land, we were diverted to Augusta Georgia. The airport was so small, they didn’t even have the right type of stairway to let us off the plane.

This situation was so similar to the one on the second trip back to Kazakhstan, that it was eerie. This time at least, we could speak the language, we were delayed hours instead of days, and we were only a few hours drive from our destination instead of 24 hours.

We ended up renting a car and driving to our hotel on the Tybee Island beach, with a stop to visit Alec and his girlfriend Cait’s apartment. They have a cute puppy named Otis, which Ethan spent the whole trip being dramatically terrified of.

Alec showed Ethan how to drive a racecar on his computer, tossed him up over his shoulder, and wrestled with him in the back seat. At one point Ethan squawked that Alec had hurt him, complete with tears of pain. Alec thought Ethan was faking, but I thought tears must mean it was real. Turns out I was wrong, and Ethan somehow managed to make fake tears on purpose. Wow. Ethan later said he wished he lived across the street from Alec and Cait so he could see them more often.
